Thurlbear pond is one of the club’s newest venues and is proving very popular with both the senior and junior anglers. The pond is very well stocked with Carp, Roach, Perch, Bream and even orfe. Grass Carp can also be found here. It is the ideal venue for the pleasure angler amongst you.

There is ample car parking at this venue with an enclosed car park…..please remember to close all gates behind you and take your litter home with you. Junior members should be accompanied by an adult at this venue due to the depth of water.

Fishing Thurlbear ( TA3 5AX )

3lb Bream from the deeper end

Thurlbear Pond is about 1.5 acres in size. It has a shallow part of the lake nearest the car park, and the deeper area is surrounded by trees on the far side. Separating the shallow and deep parts is an island which is a useful feature to fish to for carp. During the summer in the shallow end Carp and Orfe as well as the two Identical Twins (Golden Orfe) can be seen swirling on the surface. The Carp also love to sit sunbathing in the margins and can be tempted with some floating bread or dog biscuits, but beware of the resident Ducks who will lovingly follow you round like you’re their new best friend! In the summer pellet also works very well for most species. The smaller soft pellets are very good for hook baits for the skimmers.

In the winter time when the water gets colder the fish like to head to the deeper part of the lake furthest from the car park. Here worm and caster works very well. The perch especially love to take a worm bait.
